My grandpa and I pray together and he is always checking on me and making sure I'm okay. He still teaches Sunday school at his church and prays for his friends and family everyday. He helps around the house with dishes and washes the towels. He will vacuum and he will cook him breakfast every morning. He doesn't ask for much and all he wants is everyone to know Christ and to be happy. I wish sometimes I knew how he was like when he was my age. I know he loved my grandma with everything he was. When I hear about the story of him and my grandma it just reminds me that my love story can be like that. They put God first and each other second and their kids third. I hear that they respected and loved each other and money was never an issue. They got by with what they could afford. My grandma went to college and my grandpa didn't and yet my grandpa wanted my grandma to stay home and take care of the house hold and he went out and provided.
As a baby my grandpa will tell you that when my mom and grandma couldn't get me to stop crying, they would hand me off to him and I would stop crying. My grandpa just has a loving and caring personality about him and I am so thankful to have him in my life and I appreciate him even more since he is my only parent left.
For his birthday we took it relaxing and we went out and got his favorite food from China Star. We also went to the movies and saw Left Behind. He hasn't gone to a movie in almost 20 or 30 years. I got him a little cupcake and he blew it out and made a wish! He got lots of phone calls wishing him Happy Birthday!
I love him and I am glad that God has allowed him to live on this earth for 85 years and to be there for me and to pray for me. He is a true blessing in my life and I hope he lives another 20 years so he can walk me down the aisle and be there when my children are born.
